AI is the talk of the town. AI companies building models and/or computing capacity are spending ridiculous sums on this almost unprecedented infrastructure buildout. We say "almost" because the building of the national railroad system after the Civil War was of a similar size relative to the economy. The buildout of the internet is of a similar scale, but it took place over a few decades, whereas everyone is acting as if they cannot get it done within five years; they lose the race.
