Global Spotlight

Mexico’s legislative session. Beginning Sept. 1, the session will be full of important bills that with significant short- and long-term effects on the Mexican economy if passed.

Polarized parliaments in Lebanon and Tunisia. Tunisia is to select a new Cabinet and Lebanon to name candidates for prime minister in the coming week. Both governments have sharply divided parliaments, which will make compromise very difficult.

Intense periods of diplomacy in Eurasia and Asia-Pacific nations. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) ministerial-level summits are scheduled for the coming week.

The first commercial flight between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. The El Al commercial flight with U.S. and Israeli officials will take off Sept. 1, likely crossing Saudi airspace, in a public sign of both increased ties between the UAE and Israel and of acceptance of those ties by Saudi Arabia.
