TLT: Long Term Treasury Bonds

One of the most surprising performers of the last five years is long term US Treasury bonds. We say surprisingly because investors have been willing to buy long term bonds at yields that are guaranteed to deliver negative real return after taxes and inflation. This phenomenon has pushed individual investors into stocks. Only institutional investors who have limits on equity holding or required minimums in fixed income holding have held long term government bonds.
