Goodwill Gestures Ahead of Trade Negotiations. With one-third of the 90-day negotiation window already complete, China kept reminding the United States that it is making concerted efforts to address Washington’s demands despite the Huawei saga.

A Saudi Cabinet Reshuffle to Rebalance and Reassure. King Salman announced Cabinet changes on Dec. 27 that included several key posts, including the foreign ministry and the National Guard.

A Crucial Fortnight for Brexit. The holiday season may have given the British government (and public) a temporary respite from the Brexit drama, but when Prime Minister Theresa May’s Cabinet goes back to work Jan. 2, it will find its problems waiting for it.

Tensions in the Sea of Azoz. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated this week that the West should refrain from supporting any new “provocations” by Ukraine in the Sea of Azov.
