Third Time’s a Charm for AMLO. Mexican presidential front-runner Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, popularly known as AMLO, may have failed twice before to reach the presidency, but a steadily building anti-establishment wave now stands ready to catapult him into power.

Tracking Unrest in Iran. The White House appears to be going for Tehran’s jugular in demanding total oil import cutoffs and refusing waivers to its trading partners in enforcing Iran sanctions.

A Bullish Oil Market. A hard-line White House approach to enforcing Iran sanctions could take around 1 million barrels of oil per day (bpd) off the market by the end of the year.

China Tariffs Ready to Drop. On July 6, the United States will impose a 25 percent tariff on $34 billion worth of Chinese industrial products, with another set of tariffs on $16 billion in goods due later this summer.

Putin’s Big Pension Problem. Beginning July 1 and continuing into the week, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny will lead protests against plans for an increase in the retirement age in Russia.
