Can Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) Help Investors Beat the Market?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that attempts to make computers think, act, react like humans and perhaps with greater judgment, unaffected by internal biases and emotions.  For the first time, microprocessor speeds, cheap/virtually free memory and access to data make the promise of Artificial Intelligence a possibility. People are now using the technique in the areas of robotics, medicine, transportation/autonomous vehicles,  natural language processing, military defense, etc.

Not to be left out, some people are making an attempt to use it in the area of investment finance. These fund developers are attempting to use A.I. techniques to select individual securities in an attempt to pick the right stocks and outperform the market. The question is, are these folks making any progress?
