Can PPL Continue to Power Higher?

PPL Corporation is a traditional electric and gas utility company. The electric utility business is broken into three segments, (1) generation, (2) transmission and (3) distribution. While PPL has some generation capacity in Kentucky, it is primarily a transmission and distribution company. In essence, they collect a fee for taking power from the generator and delivering it to residential and industrial customers. PPL delivers natural gas and electric power to more than 1 million customers in Louisville, adjacent areas in Kentucky and southwestern Virginia. The company also delivers electric power to approximately 1.4 million customers in Pennsylvania. To serve these customers, the company has built an impressive power delivery infrastructure. The company has 10,000+ miles of transmission lines and over 200,000+ miles of distributions lines, which are spread over 36,000 square miles. Unlike most US utilities, PPL has an international presence. PPL operates 4 electricity distribution networks in the United Kingdom. The company was founded in 1851. In the last 12 months, PPL generated $1.9 billion in profits on $7.5 billion in revenues.
